Where to stay
Samui is pretty much completely surrounded by stunning beaches. The island is fairly small and you can drive around the whole ring road in about one and a half hours, so everywhere is fairly accessible and nowhere is too remote.
However, some areas are busier than others and have a wider choice of accommodation, amenities and facilities. A lot will depend on what your expectations are and whether you want a peaceful tropical escape or a varied and active nightlife.
In general each of the more popular resort areas cater to all tastes and budgets and wherever you are there will normally be plenty of food options available.
Your choice of accommodation can often be as important as the location as many of the five-star properties, even within the busier areas, can offer outstanding privacy and peaceful surroundings.

Hotel Zone (Bo Phut)Bophut is situated on a quiet bay on the north of Samui and is considered by many to be a more sophisticated resort area. Hotel Zone (Laem Set)Samui’s west and southwest coastal areas are certainly less developed and there are fewer choices when it comes to nightlife. However, this has resulted in some of the island’s most exclusive, private and peaceful hotels and resorts being located here.
Areas such as, Laem Set, Phang Ka, Thong Krut, Taling Ngam, Lipa Noi, and Bang Makam all offer a more authentic insight into the real Thailand. The beaches in these areas are generally far quieter than the other side of the island and far less commercialised. It’s still possible to find yourself alone on a wide stretch of unspoilt beach in these areas and this side of the island also benefits from Samui’s legendary sunsets.
Despite being a serene and tranquil escape this side of the island does have a good choice of authentic Thai and seafood restaurants, as well as a selection of high-end, fine dining options, usually situated within one of the many luxury hotels.
If a busy nightlife is important to you then this side of the island is probably a little too far away from the action. However if you’re looking for complete relaxation, privacy and more natural surroundings then this area is ideal.
For shopping, the port town of Nathon provides a quieter alternative to Chaweng. There is less choice here but the locally produced products tend to be slightly cheaper.

เมื่อเร็ว ๆ นี้ กัปตันพุฒิพงศ์ ปราสาททองโอสถ กรรมการผู้อำนวยการใหญ่สายการบินบางกอกแอร์เวย์สเดินทางไปร่วมงาน ITB Berlin 2010 ซึ่งเป็นงานแสดงอุตสาหกรรมท่องเที่ยวนานาชาติ จัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 10 - 14 มีนาคมที่ผ่านมา ณ กรุงเบอร์ลิน ประเทศเยอรมัน โดยกัปตันพุฒิพงศ์ได้เปิดเผยถึงจำนวนของผู้โดยสารสำหรับปี 2010 ที่มีแนวโน้มเพิ่มขึ้นเนื่องจากสภาพคล่องของธุรกิจท่องเที่ยวในทวีปเอเชีย ที่เพิ่มขึ้น 6.4% เมื่อเปรียบเทียบระหว่างเดือนมกราคม 2010 กับเดือนมกราคม 2009
กัปตันพุฒิพงศ์ได้กำหนดแผนการดำเนินงานของสายการบินในการเพิ่มเที่ยวบินใน เส้นทางที่ให้บริการในปัจจุบัน และได้เปิดแผนระยะยาวที่จะเปิดบินในเส้นทางบินที่ระงับการให้บริการไปในช่วง ปี 2552 ซึ่งในปัจจุบันสายการบินฯ ได้มีการเพิ่มจำนวนเที่ยวบินทั้งเส้นทางในประเทศและต่างประเทศ อาทิเช่น กรุงเทพ – ย่างกุ้ง เพิ่มจาก 7 เที่ยวบินเป็น 11 เที่ยวบินต่อสัปดาห์ และกรุงเทพ – เชียงใหม่ เพิ่มจาก 21 เที่ยวบิน เป็น 28 เที่ยวบินต่อสัปดาห์ เพื่อรองรับนักท่องเที่ยวในช่วงหน้าร้อนนี้ นอกจากนี้สายการบินฯ ยังได้เปิดให้บริการในเส้นทางกรุงเทพ – ลำปาง ตั้งแต่เดือนกุมภาพันธ์ที่ผ่านมา ส่วนเส้นทางบินต่างประเทศที่ได้ยกเลิกบินไป ได้แก่เส้นทางโฮจิมินห์ จีนและญี่ปุ่นมีแนวโน้มที่จะนำมาพิจารณาเพื่อกลับมาให้บริการใหม่อีกครั้ง โดยขึ้นอยู่กับความต้องการของตลาด ทั้งนี้ แม้ว่าราคาของบัตรโดยสารในปัจจุบันจะลดลงกว่า 40% แต่การเพิ่มขึ้นของผู้โดยสารในปี 2553 คาดว่าจะช่วยสร้างผลกำไรให้กับบริษัทฯ ได้

Guests at Langham Place Samui at Lamai Beach were treated with a special surprise during Chinese New Year.
To celebrate the Year of the Tiger, the resort arranged a visit of two tiger cubs from the Samui Aquarium & Tiger Zoo. Guests had a close encounter with these adorable creatures by playing, feeding and taking pictures with them. This exciting activity did not only enhance festivity at the resort, but also made the stay even more fun and stimulating for kids and adults alike.
At one month, this was the cubs’ first trip out of the zoo.
